Faith Formation
Adult Religious Education
This religious education is active for parents of children who are in sacramental preparation.
The Religious Education Office, under the direction of Sr. Loretta Topper, conducts a series of workshops
to help familiarize parents with the process and the background of preparing the children for reception of
the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation, and Eucharist. Also, Lenten studies are offered.

Base Communities
Base communities are small faith sharing groups in geographic areas who meet monthly to read Scripture,
reflect on the readings, and discuss the needs of their geographic area.

Religious Education
The Religious Education program provides formal education and faith formation for students in kindergarten
through 8th grade from September to May. Its main objective is to provide a formal structure where
students can learn together and come to a deeper understanding of the sacred truths of their Catholic faith
on the level they are maturing. Religious textbooks are used and effort is made to keep in touch with
parents who take a primary role in the formation.
Teachers guide instruction in class time on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. The sacramental
program is very important. Children in second grade are prepared to receive three Sacraments while
reflecting back on the meaning of their baptism. The Sacraments are stressed each year thereafter and
students are given ample experiences of Penance and Eucharist and other devotions - all to encourage and instill
in them a piety and desire to worship with their fellow Catholics on Sunday. For the younger children, there
is a Children's Liturgy of the Word that takes place during the Sunday liturgy.

R.C.I.A.
The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is organized around the order of Christian initiation of adults and
children. It continues the evangelization efforts by guiding and helping those who are inquiring about the
Catholic faith.
The R.C.I.A. membership is composed of parishioners who love being Catholic and sharing the Good News of Jesus
Christ with those on a journey to full communion in the Catholic Church. Any inquirers are led without
pressure through various stages and, when ready, are prepared to receive the Easter Sacraments. A period of
"Mystagogia" seeks to further deepen the commitment of faith after they become Catholic.
For more information, please contact Sr. Loretta Topper at 724.736.0158 or sjbreled@yahoo.com.
Regular sessions will begin on Wednesday, September 8 at 7:00 PM in the Religious Education Center.
